No longer in business. Showed up to a dark and empty building with CLOSED signs all over it.

I have to say it's a great place to eat! Parking is not very great, but you can make it. We parked on the side. Restrooms are very clean. Inside very clean looks great nice decor, great menu specials. I had the fried chicken mashed potatoes & green beans & Cole slaw. My wife loved the silverware! ! 5 stars for that. lol . Hot fresh bread before the meal. Excellent service! We will be back!

A group of 4 of us followed Yelp to the Hitching Post and are so glad we did. According to earlier reviews, the previous owner didn't pay much attention to cleanliness. DON'T WORRY ABOUT IT NOW!! EVERYTHING IS UPDATED AND CLEAN. It's not a 5 star decor, but it is clean. Now let's talk about the great food. We agree, a great little hole in the wall. We arrived around noon on Thursday which happens to be Hunter Schnitzel and meatloaf special day. My husband had the meatloaf and the rest of us had Hunter Schnitzel. Both were very tasty the Schnitzel required no knife. The meals came with 3 home made sides. We tried cucumber salad, pea salad, cole slaw, macaroni made with white cheddar and cake of the day, It also comes with hot yeast rolls. Now get ready for the unbelievable part. The price of this excellent meal was $5.85 for seniors and about a dollar more for younger folks. The drinks were extra, but the coffee was great at $1.35 and the iced tea was $110.00. We will be sure to stop again on our next trip through town. We suggest that you stop here too!

Best diner for miles! Great staff who take pride in their craft! Highly recommended! They have updated the restrooms and cleaned up the place. Very affordable and the variety day to day is delicious. The german schnitzel is too die for!

This southerner was surprised to get really delicious fried chicken north of the Mason Dixon line. Im so glad that I didn't let location sway my choice of entree! We were passing through and I found this gem on yelp. So glad we did. Super economical, super fast, and super yummy fried chicken! I took off a star for the mashed potatoes. They were paste and weren't well seasoned. However, the green beans were scrumptious. P.s. you can pick dessert as one of your sides....

Time warped back to 70's style diner/country cafe - red and white checked plastic table clothes included. We had breakfast that included biscuits and gravy. Best thing about the gravy it was homemade best thing about the biscuits homemade. We will be back next time we our in the area. 5 star for food and service not so much for decor but the place is clean!

A group of 4 of us ate here at 8:00 a.m on a Sunday. Four full breakfasts and 4 coffees for a total bill of $19.67. Wow. This place might not merit 4 stars in Chicago, but taking into consideration how few choices there are in small towns, but this place earns the stars for low prices, quick service and great breakfasts. I deducted one star for filthy gross bathrooms. See my bathroom photos of the place.

Fine place for a good fill up and worth the drive off I-57. evidently favorite of locals with friendly service and the prices seemed about 20yrs ago. starving or not, my country fried steak, eggs, biscuits, coffee and a great piece of chocolate pie breakfast was damn good

Great little hole-in-the-wall cafe if you happen to be passing through town.

Ditto Ryan D. in every way. Breakfast is way cheap, and their biscuits and gravy special is good enough for me to order it again (and I'm very picky about biscuits and gravy, so that means a lot). Grandpa B is one of the regulars, and he's picky about everything, so that's a pretty good thing for the Hitching Post in my book.

This is a favorite of my parents. They are reasonably priced, and it gives you the old school diner feeling. To me, the place is average. There are a lot of usuals that go there, and parking in their small lot is a task in itself.
